Getting here
Emayani Lodge is located 16 km south of Pangani town on Tanzania’s northern mainland coast. Distances within Tanzania are :
- 377 km from Dar Es Salaam,
- 436 km from Arusha,
- 80 km from Old Stone Town(Zanzibar)
- 66 km from Tanga.
In some cases, transfers are needed to complete that last bit of the journey.

Whether from Tanga airport or all the way to Arusha, Mohamed does it with an eye on comfort and safety.
Flights
While flights to Tanga are offered on a daily basis, there is also the comfortable option of flying to Emayani Lodge.
From Arusha and Dar Es Salaam a daily scheduled flight is possible though a minimum of 2 persons are required. Emayani Beach Lodge has its own airstrip: KWAJONI
In most cases flights leave during the afternoon which allows travellers to make an onward connection from an incoming international flight, depending on the carrier. In some cases there is also a choice to leave in the morning. For further details about availability, prices and departure times please contact the airlines.
Public Transport
Emayani beach lodge is reachable by public transport, though we advise to travel during the early hours of the day as it increases your chances for better transport connections. From whatever direction, your best option is to take the bus to Tanga and from there to travel on to Pangani by dala dala or mini-bus. Dala dala’s in Tanga leave from the main terminal where you arrive as well. Transport to Pangani operates until 1500 hrs.
Once in Pangani ask to be dropped at the ferry and make your way across the river. On the other side you look for the dala dala that goes to Ushongo. Emayani > delete. Once in Ushongo village > delete. En route, please give us a call so we can pick you up.
A more frequently used option is to make your way by public transport to Pangani and from there arrange a transfer with Mohamed, who will take you directly to our lodge..
Self drive
Reaching Emayani Lodge by car is possible from various directions, depending on which route you want to drive. The following would roughly be:
From Arusha
Follow the main road to Moshi and then further on to Segera. Here at the junction you follow the road to Tanga until the town of Muheza - 35 km after Segera. Take the dirt road to Pangani (42 kms) and then drive to the ferry. The ferry crossing operates daily from 06.00 – 20.00. Follow the road until you pass the village of Mwera. Just after Mwera, where the sisal fields stretch out on your right hand side, you will see the junction to the coast on your left. From here you can follow the signs all the way to the lodge for the last 8 km.
From Dar Es Salaam (option #1)
Follow the main road to Chalinze and there at the junction change route to Segera. At Segera junction you follow the road to Tanga until the village of Muheza, approximately 35 km from Segera. Here you take the dirt road: 42 kms. to Pangani. At your arrival in Pangani you drive down to the NEW ferry, just next to the town center. The ferry crossing operates daily between 06.00 – 20.00 follow the road until you pass the village of Mwera. Just after Mwera, where the sisal fields stretch out on your right hand side, you will see the junction to the coast on your left. From here you can follow the signs all the way to the lodge for the last 8 km.
From Dar Es Salaam (option #2)
Follow the main road to Chalinze and there at the junction change route to Segera. After approximately 113 km, at the small town of Mkata, you turn right on the dirt road to Mkwaja which is already on the coast. Once you have reached Mwkaja follow the dirt road to Pangani, passing the small villages of Sakura and Mikinguni. After Mikinguni the next village is Mwera, which you don’t need to pass. Once getting close to Mwera you will see the sisal fields on your left and two cell phone towers on your right. At the first tower you will see the junction to the coast on your right. From there you can follow the signs all the way to the lodge for the last 8 kms.
