Things to do and see

There are a surprising variety of things to do in and around Pangani.

What better way to unwind than to pull your beach bed into the shade of a palm and settle down for a good read? If you finish your books, don’t worry we have a small library stocked with all sorts of good books you can borrow.

For something a little more active take a dip into the clear waters of the Indian Ocean. If you’d like to snorkel we have masks and flippers to hire.

You can either swim from the shore and explore the small corals nearby, or you can arrange to go by boat to Maziwi Island. This small sand island was recently designated a marine reserve, it sits on a stunning coral reef, and snorkeling here offers great opportunities to see varied corals and sea creatures.

An ‘Ngalawa’ wooden outrigger, is ready to take you to the best fishing spots. The ocean here teems with fish and there is a very good chance of catching something, it could be anything from a guppy to a barracuda. We have life jackets you can rent if you’d like to take kids along.

We love messing around on the water, so there’s a whole range of boats here at Emayani; windsurfers, kayaks, even a dhow.

If you want a really romantic end to your day, ask us about arranging a sunset cruise. Bring your own coolbox filled with drinks. We will take you out to sea at around 5.30. You can enjoy the sunset in complete peace then return to shore in time for dinner.

If you like to walk the beaches around Emayani are safe, quiet and unspoiled. You can wander all day and only see a few fishermen.

We can also arrange several excursions for you.

  • You could join a cruise up the Pangani river, this takes you into the mangroves and forests of the interior, providing exceptional bird watching opportunities.
  • You can explore Pangani’s rich history on a cultural tour, visiting the historical buildings escorted by a knowledgeable and informative guide.
